The emotional power of music

Music can make you feel happy, sad, calm, or excited depending on its tempo, melody, and lyrics. For example, upbeat music often boosts energy, while slow tunes can be soothing or reflective. Listening or making music can increases blood flow to brain regions that generate and control emotions.

The chills you feel when you hear a particularly moving piece of music may be the result of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that triggers sensations of pleasure and well-being. Music can affect our mood in many ways, even if we can't recognize or replicate the notes and rhythm. Certain songs can also remind you of specific memories or experiences, bringing back the emotions tied to them.
